It's not the strain in his voice, it's the actual recording - the fuzz in the background, the mics just managing to keep up and the simplicity of the songs, take All Hail West Texas - I feel like I can picture the songs being recorded, they're like a snapshot in time, whereas the songs from The Sunset Tree, though also brilliant, feel like they've been built in a studio... Because they have!

I think both of those sounds can be good, but it seems like everything has to be polished these days to get any attention from the industry, and from a lot of individuals too.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12964627567287699879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8961534516041533133.post-23261993925153577662010-01-30T19:51:25.597+03:302010-01-30T19:51:25.597+03:30I think the Mountain Goats give that rawness to th...I think the Mountain Goats give that rawness to their music even with their studio albums. For example in The Sunset Tree you can definitely feel the strain of his voice. There's something special about John Darnielle, he manages to transcribe feelings rather well upon the recording.Luisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18423585911946126192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8961534516041533133.post-9797746577576465522010-01-29T06:56:33.876+03:302010-01-29T06:56:33.876+03:30i hope you do some live shows later this year that...i hope you do some live shows later this year that i can come to.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8961534516041533133.post-27103503855516333592010-01-28T22:39:26.254+03:302010-01-28T22:39:26.254+03:30I agree with TowardsTheSea.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I often listen to music by a number of youtube artists (including you) when I'm about to sit down to work on my own stuff. I'm glad that we all seem to run up against the same kinds of challenges along the way. Looking forward to your new stuff. - JenTowardsTheSeahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17655577456140070747noreply@blogger.com
